My Battle with Winter Dryness
As the founder of Bare Intent, I’m often asked about my journey with skincare, especially my struggles with dry skin during the winter months. Trust me, I know how frustrating it can be to slather on lotion only to find your skin feeling dry, itchy, and irritated a few hours later. You might think that a trip to the store and picking up a popular lotion will solve these issues, but for many of us, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Why Do Traditional Lotions Fall Short?
Let’s talk about those conventional lotions. They promise relief, but let’s face it—they often deliver nothing more than temporary relief. You apply cream after cream, yet your skin doesn’t seem to improve. In fact, for some of us, these lotions can even cause burning sensations after applying them to already irritated skin. This experience makes you wonder: what’s really in these products?
Upon diving into the labels, I discovered something alarming. Many traditional lotions are packed with ingredients that can exacerbate dryness. Polyethelene (PEG) and there's many different types, can strip your skin barrier causing dryness and dehydration. Toluene, which is also commonly used in paint thinners, have been associated with long term health risks. DMDM Hydantoin-Quaternium 15 releases formaldehyde and is a potential carcinogen. Sulfates strip essential oils from the skin and parabens have been linked to hormone disruption and a potential skin irritant. Yes, you read that right! Rather than nourishing our skin, many of these products strips our skin barrier away instead of replenishing it. It’s no wonder we find ourselves back at square one, battling dryness and irritations day in and day out.
Finding Relief Beyond the Store Aisles
So, what’s the alternative? Simply put, it’s about finding formulations that work with, not against, our skin. My journey led me to create Bare Intent, where the focus is on natural ingredients that genuinely hydrate and restore rather than irritate. When I formulated our products, I made it a priority to avoid the harsh chemicals that traditional lotions love to tout.
We nurture our skin through thoughtful, skin-friendly ingredients that provide the long-lasting moisture we all crave. After years of struggling and experimenting, I found the right balance—a blend of nourishing oils, soothing botanicals, and rich butters that make a difference. The relief isn’t just temporary; it’s lasting.
In conclusion, next time you find yourself reaching for a conventional lotion, consider the ingredients carefully. Remember, the goal is not just to coat the skin but to enhance and support its natural barrier. Together, let’s discard the conventional and embrace a more intentional approach to skincare.
